Ferrari's latest 599 incarnation, the all new SA Apertas will be built in celebration of Pininfarina's 80th anniversary with Ferrari. This special series model has a 599, 6.0 liter, V12 engine from the 2010 Ferrari GTO, in basic terms this car has 661bhp and 457lb ft of torque. Ferrari has said that only a very limited number of just 80 will be produced.
Automobile connoisseurs all remember and recognise the importance of open Ferrari V12 classics, this list includes the 250 GT California, 330 GTS and the Daytona Spider. More recently the 550 Barchetta and 575 Superamerica have continued the tradition, the new 2011 SA Aperta will surely joined the ranks as a great.
“Aperta” is Italian for “opened”, and the SA nomenclature pays homage to both Sergio and Andrea Pininfarina whose coach-house has been linked to some of the most successful road-going cars ever built with Ferrari.
The new Ferrari SA Aperta will be a true roadster which allows the driver to enjoy the sound of the V12 in a completely open-top setting. Although for when the weather gets bad it will have an emergency, rainstorm-only soft top roof similar to the Ferrari 550 Barchetta. Ferrari suggest that the Aperta will handle and feel like a coupe and that the chassis structure was redesigned to offer stiffness, the weight gained in this process is said to be minimal.
Ferrari state: “The designers’ goal for the SA Aperta was to craft a true open roadster, providing a light soft top for weather protection when needed. Mainly, the SA Aperta was designed for enjoying high-powered driving along the world’s great roads on those perfect top-down days. Just a glance at this special car can inspire visions of taking the long sweeping curves and tight corners along the West Coast’s U.S. 1 or France’s Cote d’ Azure.”
Its interior is stylishly and sporty with new sophisticated materials, trim and colours. The car has a low-slung windscreen and is crouches lower to the ground than other models for exceptional aerodynamic performance. The chassis has been redesigned to deliver a standard of stiffness comparable to that of a closed Berlinetta.
