At the 2014 Geneva Motor Show Porsche have on display the all new Macan 4x4. It’s the fifth model line, and the Macan is the Indonesian word for tiger, to empathise its aggressive appearance and dynamic characteristics.
Based on the Audi Q5, but longer, wider & lower, it will challenge the Evoque, X3 and Jaguar’s upcoming 4x4. Three model lines have been announced; the S, S-Diesel & Turbo. All variants have a 7-speed PDK transmission connected to a V6 engine.
The entry-level ‘S’ model develops 335bhp and gives a 0-62 mph time of 5.4sec. The sole diesel option has a turbocharged 3.0-litre that accelerates from 0-62 mph in 6.3 seconds while the top of the line Turbo with its 3.6-litre engine can go from 0-62mph in 4.8sec.
Standard and optional extras include Porsche Traction Management (PTM), Porsche Stability Management (PSM), Optional Air Suspension, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) and optional Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, which works with a rear-axle diff lock, optional ceramic brakes & a very cool button to assist downhill descents at a constant speed is as standard.
Porsche is expected to add cheaper Macan models to the range during the course of 2014 and 2015, with four-cylinder petrol and diesel version that are likely to bring the price of the entry-level model down to about £35,000.
The Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova originally launched the car in L.A last year. During the event Sharapova went on to say “I have had the privilege to become associated with some of the best brands in the world," Sharapova said. "And now, to be partners with Porsche, it is such an amazing honour”.
It’s too early to say but this model could clearly be the best selling model ever. We love it!!
