The 2012 Pagani Huayra

After seven years of research and development, Pagani are delighted to present this $1.4million dollar hyper car, called the Pagani Huayra, it’s the replacement to the almighty Zonda.

There are a number of extraordinary cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Porsche Carrera GT and the Ferrari Enzo, but Pagani are known for producing things that are extra radical with outrageous performance.

Looking back, perhaps the most extreme Zonda ever made was the ‘Cinque’. Only 5 units were produced. The next car to follow was the Zonda R, of which just 15 units were made. They have a lower price and are arguably less exclusive than the Cinque, it has been reported that Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton bought one.

With regards to the design of the Huayra, they took inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci and drew on years of experience to create a car with more than 4000 components, engine and gearbox not included.

The Huayra (or code name C9) features a carbon-titanium chassis, forged aluminium alloy suspension, Pirelli tyres and Bosch electronics. This car has a 12-cylinder, Mercedes-AMG twin-Turbo engine with over 700 HP and 1100 Nm of torque, fitted with a transverse sequential seven speed gearbox controlled by the paddles mounted directly on the steering wheel.

With all of this power, the Pagani will hit speeds in excess of 220 mph. To help slow the C9 down, it has special air brakes made from the ultra-lightweight carbon-titanium material, assisted by enormous carbon ceramic brake discs. The exhaust system is made from titanium to reduce weight.

Only time will tell if the replacement for the Zonda will be a success. The launch is set for the Geneva motor show where the Huayra might prove to offer the global market something very different.
