To mark the 45th anniversary of AMG, Mercedes-Benz has released a special edition version of the SLS AMG GT3. Only five will be produced, all presented in graphite matt paint with graphite AMG Alloys and a new carbon fiber body kit. These cars are aimed at collectors much like the limited edition SL65 AMG that was unveiled at the New York motor show earlier in 2012.
When Mercedes originally launched the SLS GT series they removed many of the comforts and implemented more carbon fibre, with a stripped out interior. Under the bonnet of the SLS AMG GT3, there is more BHP as well as a re-programmed gearbox. Extra power comes from a re-mapped ECU and what Mercedes describe as ‘in-engine de-throttling’ measures. Other changes consist of a re-worked suspension system.
The 6.3-litre V8 from the '45th anniversary' car is fitted with a helping hand from AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider, you can also find a signed plaque from him in the cockpit.
This is a true track car which is priced from around £360,000, the SLS GT3 45th Anniversary edition will come with the option of an on-track coaching session at an AMG driving event.
