In 2013 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Tokyo Motor Show Mercedes announced that they would be stopping production of its successful SLS. The now iconic car was produced between 2010 and 2014 and was the first model to be built entirely by AMG and was based on the historical Mercedes 300SL. To mark this Mercedes unveiled a limited-edition version of the car, with just 350 units to be produced comprising of 200 coupes and 150 cabriolets. While most manufacturers will load its old stock with kit, bung on a set of gloss black wheels and throw in a sticker set for good measure, Mercedes set about making a car that would serve as the ultimate version of the SLS, the ‘Final Edition’. Mercedes retained the standard car’s body but jazzed things up with a load of carbon fibre. The exposed carbon bonnet was inspired by the Black Series, shaving off 3kg, they also improved the cooling and provided a bit more downforce over the front axle. It’s paired up with a carbon fibre rear wing plucked from the Black Series, along with a small splitter below the front bumper and carbon wing mirrors. And it’s all finished off with a set of forged 19/20-inch alloy wheels.
While the exterior screams track day weapon, the interior is far more understated. The only real performance touches are an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, a carbon fibre centre console and carbon door sills. The rest is more of a grand tourer feel including qualitied leather seats with the Affalterbach logo embossed in the headrest. Mercedes also ignored the cabin when it came to weight saving keeping all the important electronic bits like air con and sat nav. The only reminder that you’re in one of the last SLS`s is a small plaque on the carbon fibre centre console reading “1 of 350”.
The car we have on offer here is a one owner car with just 1,170 miles and is presented in Obsidian black with black leather and silver contrast stitching. The car was supplied and has been serviced by the same main Mercedes dealer throughout its life. This car is equipped with one of the few optional extras available, Carbon Ceramic brakes. The standard specification for theses car was huge and included Bang & Olufsen BeoSound AMG sound system, AMG Performance Media, AMG sport seats with heating and memory function, reversing camera plus much more.
