Mercedes CL63 AMG

Back to Mercedes

AMG replaced its much loved 6.2-litre V8 with a 5.5-litre direct injection ‘biturbo’ motor. It’s first was fitted to the facelifted CL-coupé, which not only uses a staggering 38 percent less fuel, but increases the horse power up to 536bhp and a whacking 125lb ft more torque. What these numbers don’t prepare you for is the ground-trembling thunder, and that’s just when you start it up, large turbo engines aren’t meant to sound like this. Nor are they meant to respond to the throttle like the CL 63, either. The secret would seem to be not more turbo pressure, but less. Because the engine is still large, Mercedes can afford to blow only moderate amounts of boost through it, which means the engine can run a compression ratio of 10.0:1, a number you’d normally associate with a normally aspirated car. Despite its size, the CL63 rockets off the line, covering the 0-62mph sprint in 4.5 seconds, with a potential top speed of 186mph. The 7G Tronic automatic gearbox makes the most of the CL’s personality, blurring the ratios brilliantly in full auto mode, and reacting swiftly enough in manual mode for an engaging driving experience.

This 2013 CL63 is presented in a striking Palladium silver with black leather interior, a colour that really suits the long sleek style of this 2-door coupe. This 3-owner car has only covered a mere 17,275 miles from new and comes equipped with a host of extras including reversing camera, drivers assistance package, 20” AMG twin spoke alloy wheels, TV tuner, keyless go, ambient lighting and front passenger seat entertainment.
