At the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1969, Mercedes-Benz launched the 3.5 litre V8 engine to fill a gap in their range. It was available in both fixed head coupe and cabriolet two-door body styles using the W111 type 280SE body shell; we believe only 68 models built for world wide sale were made in right hand drive. It was distinguishable from its six cylinder predecessors by a lower and wider radiator grille necessary to accommodate the larger V8 motor. Performance was impressive, the V8 propelling the 280SE 3.5 to a 120 mph plus top speed with 0-60 mph reached in under 10 seconds.
The vehicle presented here today for sale is a nice example of this very sought after Mercedes Benz 280 SE 3.5 Cabriolet. Presented in white with the original soft top and has lovely brown leather Patina interior. Also fitted with electric windows and still retaining its rare original steel wheels with stainless steel painted wheel trims. The car has covered 58,500 miles and is in very good condition.
