We are delighted to offer this incredibly rare ex-works Ferrari Formula 2/Tasman single seater. One of the prettiest single seaters built and driven in period during the 1968 and 1969 season by Jacky Ickx and Derek Bell with great success. Eligible for Goodwood and many other great events, this is an opportunity to acquire such a special car with an impressive works history; the car has been in its current ownership for 36 years.
The third model 68, s/n 0010, began its career in the European Championship of Formula Two, entrusted for the first four races with Jacky Ickx before Derek Bell was contacted at the beginning of June by Keith Ballisat of Shell to do a test drive for Ferrari at Monza. Following good results Bell was incorporated into the team (without signing a contract), and entered his first race for the Scuderia Ferrari at the G.P. della Latteria, where he gained the pole!
During the race Bell involuntarily provoked the famous collision around the parabolic, notably eliminating the other two Dinos; having no contract, he thought that his career at Ferrari was finished, and some days later he was summoned to Maranello where he was received with praise: “Congratulations for your fine pole position, here is US$ 1000, we were most happy with you!” They offered him a contract and he signed it. Signed as what he was not sure … appearances are sometimes misleading.
