This stunning Bentley, 1 of 5 LHD S1 Drop Head Coupes by HJ Mulliner is quite simply an icon of the marque. Ordered new by John D. Rockefeller in New York 1958 as shown on the copy of the original invoice that comes with the car, it is beautifully finished in blue with blue leather and a burled walnut interior.
In 1996 this car was subject to extensive work carried out by marque experts P & A Woods. We have invoices on file of the meticulous work done to the engine, transmission, brakes, steering and suspension. Since the work was done it has only covered 2,773 miles as shown on the odometer which was replaced by P & A Wood’s to display MPH (and not KPH).
Presented and photographed at the ‘Schloss Bensberg’ Classic Car Show in 2012, it was awarded ‘Best Post-War Open’ and received a lot of attention from the press and public. It is based on the high-performance continental chassis & powered by a 6-cylinder, 4.8 litre engine capable of remarkable performance matched only by its stunning good looks. This car is presents extremely well and is supremely rare.
